The Orange County Flyers(12-4) collapsed before coming back en route to an 8-6 victory over the Reno SilverSox (5-11) Friday night at Goodwin Field in Fullerton, CA
Jeff Van Houten led the offense for Orange County, going 2-2, with two walks, a double, and triple including pushing across the go ahead run with a two run triple as apart of a five run eighth inning .
Bob Cramer looked excellent in his first start as a Flyer, striking out the first seven outs and did not allow a ball hit into the outfield until the seventh inning.
Mark Okano got things going in the first for the Flyers with a lead off walk. Brian Rios followed two batters later with a clutch, two out RBI single up the middle.
Reno skipper Jeffery Leonard turned to the bullpen in the sixth in the form of former Flyer, Brian Fulcher. Orange County put the pressure on Fulcher as soon as they could as Jermy Acey walked before Patrick Breen tripled off the top of the center field wall, scoring Acey.
Jeff LaRue followed Breen immediately with an RBI single to shallow center field.
Reno was finally able to get to Cramer in the seventh as John Hattig hit a crisp single up the middle to start the inning. Juan Senreiso followed with a two run homer to put the Silver Sox within one.
One batter later, Steven Alexander chased Cramer from the game with a solo homer down over the left field fence to tie the game at three.
Shaughn Neal put Reno up one with an RBI single shortly after.
Then with the bases loaded, Reno continued the onslaught as Gary Harris hit a blooper down the left field line to score two but the Flyers were able to get one out on the play as Charles Merricks picked up the ball after a close play at the plate to throw out Alvarado who rounded third too far.
The Flyers threatened against Jeremy Flanagan in the seventh, but after the first two batters of the inning reached, Flanagan struck out the heart of the Orange County lineup to stifle the threat.
But the Flyers would not be turned away twice as Breen walked to start the eighth, LaRue singled, and Fernando Pacheco dropped an RBI single into shallow center.
However, the real damage came when Buddy Morales attempted to sacrifice bunt to move over the runners, but Flanagan threw the ball into left field, plating one and keeping the Flyer's rally alive.
Jeff Van Houten preceeded to give the Flyers the lead, tripling off the right field wall.
After Bacani walked, Acey picked an RBI with a single into left field.
Bob Cramer gave an excellent performance on the hill for Orange County as he did not surrender a run through six innings before giving up three in the third of an inning in the seventh. Cramer struck out eleven on the night including the first seven outs.
Monte Mansfield(2-0) pitched an excellent inning and a third to pick up the win.
Dane De La Rose (SV 2) pitched in his third consecutive game picking up his second save in as many days.
