Game Recap for 07/19/2010 7:05p PM

FULLERTON, Cali (July 19, 2010), -- The Orange County Flyers defeated the Chico Outlaws 12-8 after scoring eight runs from the fifth to the eighth innings, despite giving up a season-high 20 base hits. 

The Outlaws (35-15) fired the first shot getting on the board in the top of the second inning, but the Flyers (24-24) countered with two runs in the bottom of the second on an RBI walk by Jesse Smith, and a sac fly by Steve Boggs to give the Flyers a 2-1 lead. 

Orange County followed up with 10 runs in the next five innings, capped by a four run sixth inning.  Tyler Keeble lead off the bottom of the sixth inning with a single and the next batter Sergio Pedroza doubled and an error by right fielder Maikel Jova allowed Keeble to score and Pedroza to advance to third.  After a sacrifice fly by Boggs, David Harris and Derek Perren reached base and would both score after three straight wild pitches by Outlaw reliever Rusty Jones, giving the Flyers a 9-3 lead. 

The Flyers added three more runs in the bottom of the seventh on three straight hits by Boggs, Keeble, and Pedroza to extend the Flyers lead to 12-3, but the Outlaws scored 6 runs in the top of the eighth to get back in the game trailing by just four runs, 12-8.

Smith gave the Flyers six innings of two run baseball, scattering eleven hits and striking out four.  Bryan Harris, Cha Seung-Baek, Mike Koons, closed out the final three innings against Chico.  Outlaws starter Kris Honel went three and 2/3 innings giving up five runs on five hits, walking season-high eight batters and picking up his first loss of the season after being (6-0). 

The Orange County Flyers continue their four game series against the Chico Outlaws Tuesday night at 7:05 at “The Station” Goodwin Field.
