ST. GEORGE ERRORS LEAD TO FLYERS WIN TO START 2nd HALF

FULLERTON, Calif. (July 17, 2010) -- The Orange County Flyers capitalized on a handful of St. George errors, scoring nine unearned runs for a 10- 2 win over the RoadRunners at Goodwin Field in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader. Only one of the Flyers 10 runs was earned as OC won its first game of the second half of the season.

Starting pitcher Manny Ayala earned his seven win of the season, tying for most wins in the GBL so far this season. The right-hander gave up two runs on a pair of solo homeruns and scattered four other hits while striking out six RoadRunners in his seventh start for the Flyers.

After the RoadRunners struck first on a Nick Fitzgerald solo homerun in the second inning, the Flyers scored six runs with outs in the bottom of the inning, sending 11 batters to the plate. Sergio Pedroza led off the inning with a double advanced to third on a doubleplay ball two batters later. After a walk to Alex Jamieson, Ayala drove in Pedroza for the only earned run Orange County scored in the first five innings. After the Ayala RBI-single, Steve Boggs reached on an error, and Tyler Keeble’s RBI-single cashed Jamieson. Jimmy Rohan and Pedroza added two-run hits to close out the inning for a 6-1 lead.

Keith Ginter added a 2-run homerun in the fifth after a two-out error allowed Rohan to reach base.
