Game Recap for 07/17/2010 5:05 PM![]()
FULLERTON, Cali (July 17, 2010), -- The Orange County Flyers won their final game of the first half after a walk-off error with the bases load by St. George RoadRunners first baseman Brett Flowers. In the bottom of the eighth, The Flyers (22-23) loaded the bases on a lead off walk by David Harris, single by Derek Perren, and a sacrifice bunt by Jim Goethals that everyone was safe on. With no outs Eric Pringle grounded a ball to first base, Flowers tried to throw the game-winning run out at home, but the throw was errant and Harris scored for the Flyers 5-4 victory over the RoadRunners. The RoadRunners (16-32) broke the scoreless tie in the top of the second inning when Henry Calderon hit a two-run homer. Victor Buttler would add another run in the second for the RoadRunners on an RBI single to extend the lead to 3-0 for St. George. That lead would not last too long, in the bottom of the third Zach Mandelblatt led of the inning with a single, Jimmy Rohan walked, and the next batter Sergio Pedroza blasted his sixth home run of the year over the right field wall to tie the game at 3-3. Pedroza helped the Flyers gain the lead for the first time when he walked in the bottom of the sixth to lead off the inning. He advanced to second on a balk, and to third base on a Harris ground out, when Pringle singled to right field for his fourth RBI of the year to give Orange County a 4-3 lead. In the top of the seventh the RoadRunners were able to tie the score. Pinch-hitter Jermy Acey led off the inning with a single, Buttler came up again and grounded to third base as Rohan threw to first and the ball grazed off the end of first baseman Perren’s glove and went all the way into right field. Pinch-runner Jon Dutton did not stop running until he got home to tie the game at four and send the game into extra innings. The Flyers start game two of the doubleheader, and game one of the second half of the GBL season tonight against the St. George RoadRunners. |
