FULLERTON, Calif. (July 3, 2010) ? For the second straight night, Orange County overcame a three-run deficit to defeat the first place Na Koa Ikaika Maui, 4-3, at Goodwin Field on Saturday in the first game of a doubleheader.  Sergio Pedroza?s towering grand slam homerun over the right field foul pole in the sixth inning catapulted the Flyers ahead.  Doubleheaders in the GBL comprise two seven-inning games.

Orange County?s offense struggled through the five innings, failing to get a runner in scoring position, as Maui starter Donald Brandt gave up just one run and two walks while striking out eight Flyers.  Brandt allowed the first three batters to reach ? with singles by Steve Boggs and Derek Perren, and a walk to Jimmy Rohan ? in the sixth before being replaced by Kent Tsujimoto.

After Tsujimoto retired one batter, Pedroza stepped to the plate and on an 0-2 count sent a moon-shot over the right field fence on a grand slam on which umpires huddled to discuss the original homerun call, but they did not overturn the ruling.

Newly added reliever Brandon Parillo earned the win in his first appearance with Orange County.  Parillo (1-0) gave up one run off two hits in working the top of the sixth inning.  Andre Simpson pitched a scoreless seventh inning for his sixth save of the year and second in as many days against Ikaika.

Maui got on the board first with two runs in the third inning off Flyers starter Jesse Smith on a Tim Battle RBI single and a Keoni Ruth sac fly RBI.  Smith did not register a decision in his first start since June 16, giving up two runs on five hits with three strike outs in five innings of work.

The second game of the doubleheader is currently in progress at "The Station" with Orange County trailing Maui, 3-5, in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Flyers starter Byung-Hyun Kim pitched four innings, giving up four runs (two earned) on five hits while striking out seven batters.
