Offense pounds Scorps for sweep

FULLERTON, Calif. (June 19, 2010) – Orange County scored a season-high 16 runs in a route over the first place Yuma Scorpions, 16-8, at Goodwin Field on Saturday night.  
 
The Flyers offense was led by Steve Boggs, who went 4-for-5 with a pair of RBI and pair of runs scored.  Former Major Leaguer Keith Ginter also paced the offense with a solo homerun in a 3-for-3 performance that included three RBI and three walks.  
 
The Orange County Flyers completed a 2-game sweep over the Yuma Scorpions (15-11) in a 14-7 victory to end a 5 game home stand, where the Flyers (11-12) won three of the five games
 
After going three-up three-down against the Scorpions, the Flyers came out swinging in the bottom of the second, Keith Ginter, the former major leaguer, slugged a lead-off home run, his third of the year to give the Flyers the lead.  The Flyers would score three more in the second off a Alex Jamieson RBI single, a Manny Ayala helped himself out getting an RBI walk, and Steve Boggs had a sacrifice fly to give the Flyers a 4-0 lead.
Ginter was the star of the game, adding two more hits to his tally, a two-run double, in the bottom of the fourth extended the Flyers lead to 6-3.  Sergio Pedroza, took a step toward regaining his power, slamming his second home run of the year, a two-run shot over the right field wall that extended the Flyers lead to 9-6. 
 
After the Scorpions pulled within three runs, the Flyers pulled away with seven more runs over the seventh and eighth innings, highlighted by a Julian Benavidez two-run double to cap the scoring and provide the Flyers their 15th and 16th runs.
 
Manny Ayala earned his fourth win of the year against zero losses in just his 3rd start, pitching 5 2/3 innings, giving up six runs on 10 hits.  
 
The Flyers start a short four game road trip against the Yuma Scorpions on Mon. June 21st ending the 25th, as they come home for another short two-game home stand against the Chico Outlaws.
