Game Recap for 07/18/2009 7:35pm PM

Fullerton, Calif--The Orange County Flyers (4-1 2nd half, 21-21 overall) took a pair of games from the Yuma Scorpions (2-7 2nd half, 12-34 overall) by the scores of 9-7 and 12-9.

The second game saw the return of Player/Coach David Bacani who went an astounding 4-4 with four runs scored, an RBI, and a stolen base.

Bryan Harris got it done on the hill, converting both saves for his 10th and 11th saves on the season.

Game one saw the Flyers fall behind early as Yuma tagged starter Jesse Smith (5-4) for four runs in the first before settling down and retiring 11 consecutive batters.

The Flyers chipped away with a pair of runs in the second when Juan Senreiso walked, stole second, moved two third after two more walks, and scored on a wild pitch. Damian Jackson drove in Derrek Perren to pull the Flyers within two.

After pulling within one in the fourth, the Flyers committed a one out error in the fifth that would have been followed by an inning ending out. Instead, Carlos Arroyo delivered a two out double to plate a run and extend Yuma's lead back to two.

But Juan Senreiso turned the tables belting his first home run as a Flyer, a three run shot in the fifth to give OC the lead. Damian Jackson added a two run double later in the inning. Yuma grabbed a run of closer Bryan Harris, but couldn't get any closer than 9-7.

Game two saw the Flyers strike early, and then regain the lead in third with four consecutive hits, followed by a fourth consecutive RBI.

Bacani's return to the lineup was highlighted by an RBI double in the fourth. The Flyers led by as many as six in the second game but clung on late and being forced to call upon Harris for the third time in two days.

Despite allowing the tying run to the plate Harris converted his 11th save.

Manny Ayala worked five plus for the win in game two.

The Flyers' pitching staff was backed by a pair of defensive plays. Catcher Frank LoNigro caught a riccochet after a wild pitch and gunned the ball to second to catch the trailing runner on a double steal to end Yuma's fifth inning rally.

Nick Guerra made an acrobatic catch in left field, extending completely horizontal to the ground before flipping his feet over head, all while securing a catch that would have been extra bases in Yuma's three run seventh.

The wins give the Flyers a two game lead in the Southern Division for the second half.

In the four game sweep of the Scorpions the Flyers put up over forty runs and over fifty hits, riding comfortable leads in each contest.

The Flyers will have Sunday and Monday off before opening a three game set with the Chico Outlaws.
